Chances are.........

To me, chance means an odd/statistic/risk of things that are outside of my control.  I usually hear it in the context of “take a chance” or “chances are, it’s not happening.”  I’m quite interested to learn about the word “chance” because the word has a long history, in most ancient cultures it was commonplace to worship some god/goddess of luck or chance.  I wouldn’t be surprised if one of its older definition was closely linked to fate.  Difference being fate seems to be grander, but chance is less significant.  Apparently, chance and happen had the same definition, but that isn’t so anymore.
